Off for the weekend….

Long weekend this week. Because of Easter I have Friday off. I’m not too big on God, being an atheist and all, but hey, if it gets me a day off, I’m all for it.

Besides, how can I believe in a God who would get so pissed off at his people he’d have his son go down and be crucified to pay for their sins. Not simply run through with a sword. No. Crucified.

And not for his own sins. Nope for humanity’s.

Where is the logic in this? I have this thing for logical reasons if you feel the need to have people crucified.

Is it just me or is this god guy a deeply sick person? He would have to be a total psychopath ’cause really, what on earth does this accomplish?

You are a god. You have this son. Presumably, you quite like your son… Or not. Because you look at all them humans down there, sinning and having all manner of fun and decide, “Hey, they’re sinning non stop these creations of mine. I have to put a stop to it. I know, I’ll have my only son tortured to death to punish them!”

Now, is it just me, or is this the sign of a sick sick mind? Besides, it doesn’t seem to have worked, does it? From my vantage point we’re all pretty much way up there on the sin-o-meter.

Reason #569 why I’m an atheist.

  1. Evil Spock says:

Yeah, the bible makes a lot of sense. You’d think when they were doling out religions, you’d go with the Greek/Roman gods with the orgies and self-gratification.

  2. Big Brother says:

Let’s face it, I believe that Jesus was not the son of god since there is no god. (If you believe otherwise good for you I am but stating my beliefs, you are totally free to believe whatever you want. Live and let live.) He was nothing but a good man, who had a philosophy of life and got himself killed over it. It is only much later that the whole dogma thing came up. Funny how we westerners deify our good men and the easterners (read Asia) just considers them to be great men. Confusius, Siddhārtha Gautama (Buddha) are not considered to be gods but humans who found enlightenment. We could learn a few lessons from the east.

  3. ticknart says:

I always wondered, if Jesus died for all the sins of mankind, why isn’t he roasting in hell? If I’m going to be roasting in hell for my personal sins, he should be there, too.

  4. Jocelyn says:

Ah, your first mistake is to apply logic to religion. Second mistake: assuming God has a brain.Wow, Ticknart’s question has me thinking. I’m not used to thinking.

  5. Ian Lidster says:

But then again, if you believe in the Trinity, then God and his kid were one and the same, and it had all been foretold, so it a way it was a kind of suicide. I’m with Jocelyn on this one, don’t look for logic because it ain’t there.Have a happy easter anyway.Ian

  6. Dan says:

Good, bold post Jazz! I consider myself an atheist as well, if God is defined as this entity that watches over all of us.

  7. Jill says:

I don’t understand why it’s not enough that Jesus died for our sins though. We have to BELIEVE that he died for our sins to get any sin-credits. That makes no sense at all. Oh, there’s that problem with religion and logic again….

  8. Happy Giant Bunny Rabbit Day!

  9. geewits says:

I guess the problem I’ve mostly had with Christianity is design flaws. If man is created in God’s image, does God have crappy teeth? Why design an animal to live 80 or 90 years with teeth that are only really good for 40 or 50 years? And what about knees and spines? Humans seem haphazardly assembled to me. And hardly divine.

  10. Hageltoast says:

hope you had a fab weekend fellow sinner. 😉

  11. choochoo says:

You’re not ment to take the Bible internally, you know

  12. Dave says:

It surprises me how so many take so much time in slamming Jesus Christ if all he was was fake or a phony. Which also makes me wonder… How does a “fake god” command so much attention of billions of people throughout the ages of time (thousands of years.) You would think that if all he is is fake then why even bother writing about him and commenting about him. I also find it dissapointing that there are no “believing bloggers” taking the time to fight up for those who slam their Saviour. I for one believe. To each their own I suppose. That is what this world is about… Respecting each other’s opinions and beliefs.Have a Happy Easter! 🙂

  13. Tai says:

Interestingly, many other religions are/were condemned and considered uncivilized/pagan/evil for “sacrifices” such as you described.Talk about a blood thirsty religion!

  14. Jazz says:

Evil Spock – Yeah, the romans knew about fun.BB – There are indeed lessons to be learned.Tick – He did the crucifixion, he doesn’t need hell. And actually, since he died for all our sins, none of us should do hell… or was it just for the sins until he died?Jocelyn – Logic. Ok scratch logic, it still doesn’t make sense.Ian – YOu’re gonna make my brain explodeDan – Thank youJill – Ah yes, the logic conundrumSnay – Bunnies!!!! Bunnies that lay eggs… speaking of logicGeewits – I never looked at it that way.Toast – it was indeed a good weekend. Chocolate was eaten.Choochoo – Internally? Like chocolate?Dave – Probably there are not many believing bloggers reading my blog. Or those that are, unlike you don’t dare speak up. Good for you then for saying your piece. Life would be boring if everyone thought the same. And your opinion is respected here.Tai – Yep, the horrors committed in the name of Christianity boggle the mind. Reason 236 why I’m an atheist. I have lots of problems with organized religion in general.

  15. paula says:

Now that’s an Easter posting of a different color. : )And if you’re a Calvinist (or a certain strain of Calvinist), Jesus only died for the elect, people whom God had chosen before creation. Figureing out if you’re one of the ‘elect’ is another story.
