This and that…

As I realized this morning that I’ve almost filled another journal, it struck me that my journals have been filling up much more quickly since I began blogging.

Just sayin’

Dear Nobel Peace Prize Board,

OK, maybe I’m an idiot, but I don’t understand why Al Gore got the Nobel Peace Prize. I really did love An Inconvenient Truth, but what does it have to do with the Nobel Prize? Please explain.

Will less pollution advance the cause of peace on our planet?

No offence, NPPB but I think not. I guess like everything else the NPP has gone Hollywood.

Respectfully,

Jazz

I love those sponsored links in the Gmail sidebar. Depending on your subject line, a million different websites that have, supposedly, something to do with it just pop up.

I sent an email regarding a book to a friend and these are the links they came up with:

What would I get if I were talking about my vibrator or the previous day’s screamingly good sex?

I won’t be around for the rest of the week. The office is paying good money to a company to keep me out of the office for two days “teaching” me computer stuff. All they had to do was say, “Hell, Jazz, we don’t want to see you, disappear for the rest of the week.” No need to pay mucho dinero to have me stay away…

I don’t get that Al Gore thing either. I’d like a good explanation, too

  2. Jill says:

I’m glad I’m not the only one wondering about that peace prize. Don’t get me wrong, I think what he did is a great thing, but I’m not seeing how it’s a peace-prize-worthy thing except in the most indirect sort of way.

  3. geewits says:

Oh no! And you just got back!

  4. “Will less pollution advance the cause of peace on our planet?”Yes. The scale will soon reach a critical mass, in our globalized age, in which international economic and political systems, along with their militaries, will come into play. The political and economic upheavals that the coming climate crisis, if not forestalled, will bring are extremely dangerous. The groundwork for the coming resource wars, for water just for starters, is already being laid. There is nothing that will disrupt the peace of the planet more profoundly than the looming climate crisis, which is no longer credibly disputed. I think the Nobel committee was quite far-sighted and innovative in awarding the peace prize to Al Gore. You can argue the science if you like. But given the facts as they are currently know and extrapolated, climate change and world peace are inextricably interwoven.

  5. Ian Lidster says:

As I’ve covered the Gore Nobel thing, and I won’t intrude farther into the vibrator or screamingly good sex thing, I can only wish you lots of great learning stuff during your time away. But, gee, I’m like Geewits, we just got you back.

  6. mikster says:

I’m on the first, of 5 consecutive days off, and I’m getting paid too. 😉

  7. Voyager says:

Do you put your blogs in your journal, or write all different stuffV.

  8. Jazz says:

Jill & Ticknart – See Joe’s explanation….Joe – Thanks for that explanation. I never thought of it in that light.Ian – I’ll be back MondayMikster – I’m wondering whether I should hate you.Voyager – Some things from my blog make it to my journals and vice versa. But I’d say 95% of the stuff is different. The journal is more personal, most of what’s in my journals I would never think of putting onto my blog.

  9. Susan Tuttle says:

Thanks for the links. I found Joe’s comment very enlightening–very well-spoken.Best,Susan

  10. Josie says:

Joe gave a very good explanation of how climate change will affect the planet. Gore was decades ahead of everyone else in the 1980s, and everyone laughed at him,. Now the Nobel committee is decades ahead too. But, the worst thing that is going to happen with climate change will be the pandemics of superbugs that will evolve, to which humans won’t have immunity, and it’s already beginning. So, you could probably argue that Gore should have won the Nobel prize in medicine as well. Folks really need to start taking it seriously.I now relinquish my soap box 🙂

  11. Jocelyn says:

I’m sure you’ll put all your new technological know-how to work here on the blog, too, right?I’m wid ya on Al Gore. Doing good work. Not about peace so much.
