A new documentary…

Posted: May 6, 2008 in Uncategorized

Hot Quebec actor (hot career and hot hot boy), after writing and/or directing a couple of quite good movies – Bon Cop Bad Cop, Trois Petits Cochons (Three Little Pigs) – is going to Africa to film a documentary on the Millenium Objectives voted by the UN in 2000.

The 191 member countries were going to make sure primary education was available to all, reduce poverty and hunger, promote women’s equality, reduce infant mortality among other noble objectives.

Eight years later, Huard has decided to go see what’s what, since, according to him, the UN is falling behind on all of these objectives .

Huh! Did he really thing the UN would actually do anything other than sprout good sentiments? If so, he’s a damn sight more naive than I am. Obviously, nothing was going to be done. There’s no money in ending poverty.

Who me, a cynic?

If not a cynic, then a dasher of illusions.:)Everyone has illusions, I think. I get through life thinking that somewhere someone cares about something and that shomehow that someone will make that something into a nothing, so that no one must care about anything anymore.Yeah I know that made no sense.

  2. furiousBall says:

if only the rich debutards would make poor look trendy then possibly we could help the poor

  3. Tai says:

Hot indeed (loved him in Bon Cop…)Well, I wish him luck with it. I’m sure he’ll uncover scandal and waste and evil. It’s pretty standard.

  4. Oh yummmm hot boy indeed! And yes, very naive in thinking it could be done in no time. But is he really that naive though? Didn’t George Clooney did something similar to that but in Darfour? I’m with you on the cynic thing. I can’t help wonder if these things (visits/films/documentary/whatever) are not mostly done to help their image. Plus, it seems that poverty is not as hot a topic as global warming.

  5. Jocelyn says:

You make good points, I think, but he’s too damn hot for me to think straight (and I usually hate the “hoticization” of anything or one). But num.

  6. geewits says:

Maybe he just caught that “The greatest Silence: Rape in the Congo” documentary that’s running right now on HBO. It pretty much shows all of the bad things you listed.

  7. Jazz says:

Rachel – Yeah, at 47 I still have some illusions. I have no idea why I can’t just damn well give ’em up already…Fuball – You always have the answer!Tai – Yeah, waste, scandal and evil are par for the course nowdays. But then, humanity being what it is, I can’t help but wonde if it was ever any different.HD – Well, that’s a take on it I hadn’t seen. I was cynical about the UN, not Patrick Huard. You’re even more cynical than I am! Who knew.Joce – I’m not big on hotisization either, but he’s just naturally yummy. No hotisization involved.Geewits – and now he can do the same movie in French and no one will be the wiser… Bwah!
