Dear Mayor Tremblay…

Posted: October 28, 2009 in Uncategorized

Today on my way to work I heard the most stupid thing to hit my ears in a long long time. Amazingly stupid actually. At first I thought I hadn’t woken up yet and was still in my comfy bed dreaming deranged dreams. Alas I wasn’t.

Now, I know municipal elections in the province will be held Sunday. And I’m sure with all the corruption scandals hitting your administration in the last couple of weeks you must be scrambling. Because of course they held it all under their belts until the campaign was well under way to exert maximum pain. Sneaky bastards aren’t they? And yeah, of course they’re no better, they’re just doing better at covering their tracks. For now.

But !

But to put out a radio commercial* saying:  “Let’s talk about integrity. Did the mayor know or didn’t he? Let’s put it this way, if you’re working in a company and your colleague does something dishonest, do you think he’ll go tell the boss about it? Or you? No, he won’t, of course he won’t! I had no idea but I have integrity and as soon as I found out about all this I took measures.” (Note – contents of commercial updated after hearing it yet AGAIN!!)

Mr. Tremblay, let me impart a bit of Jazz wisdom here:

A) Whining won’t help. Seriously, stop whining, it’s cringe inducing in a grown man.

B) You are the boss. You won the last election. It’s your business to know.As top dog, sorry dude, but ultimately you are responsible. It’s as simple as that. You and nobody else. You wanted the power, you also have to take the lumps that go along with it.

C) The whole “don’t blame me it’s not my fault” thing is pathetic at best. Put on your big boy jockey shorts and take responsibility for your administration. You’re not in grade school anymore. And acting like you are won’t get you re-elected.

Of course it might. We are in Montreal after all and clowns abound, so we’ll see on Sunday won’t we?

Cynically as ever,

* Not even an interview. That you just hear once. A damn commercial that will be played over and over and over again… Oy man! Fire your campaign manager!!!

  1. rachel says:

Your stories of provincial and municipal politics never cease to amuse me. LOL

  2. VioletSky says:

and now, you are really wishing you were somewhere else, aren't you?!!

  3. Jeaux says:

Heh, reminds me of the baseball player who, after his team lost the playoffs said "We have nobody to blame but each other."

  4. Gaelyn says:

That's politicians for you, truly a crusty lot.

  5. Guillaume says:

Tremblay has been pathetic since the beginnign of the scandal(s). He is simply too weak a mayor and since he cannot take responsibilities for his own impotence (or even blame the crooks in his team), I hope he will be defeated this Sunday. I HOPE. I sadly don't think it will happen, but if he gets rellected, I think he should be impeached.

  6. Big Brother says:

Harry S Truman, the president of the US that replaced Roosevelt at the end of WWII had a sign on his desk saying… "The buck stops here". I am so tired of hearing our leaders saying that it's not their fault. It really seems to be a problem endemic to our society.Damn I'm glad to live in one of the de-merged cities, at least I don't have to choose between Harel and Tremblay and our city isn't large enough for its contracts to be scandal fodder.

  7. lime says:

i know nothing of montreal politics but i know your thoughts make sense.

  8. Jazz says:

Rachel – I'm glad. These bozos have to have some use!VS – You have no ideaJeaux – And monthrealers have no one to blame but themselves. They don't vote so you get what you deserve.Gaelyn – oh yeahGuillaume – he'll probably be relected and he won't be impeached and the 80% of people who don't bother to vote will keep on bitching – which, as far as I'm concerned they have no right to do if they didn't bother to go out and vote.BB – maybe we should send that sign to the mayor of Montreal – whoever he or she will end up being.Lime – High praise. Thanks.

  9. XUP says:

Mayors in general are the saddest lot of politicians around. They're as corrupt as all the others, but don't have the sophistication to pull it off. But you know what they say — the people get the policiticans they deserve.

  10. Jazz says:

XUP – how true. And again, despite all their griping people won't even bother to go vote – the turnout'll be around 20% most probably. If you don't go to the polling station – even if it's to cancel your vote in protest, you have no right to bitch about the results.

  11. Dumdad says:

I've never heard of Trembling Tremblay but you sure gave him it with both barrels. Atta girl!

  12. Suldog says:

Ugh. Plenty of glass houses down here, so chucking stones is not a good idea. However, Good God, Man! Take some responsibility. Ugh.

  13. Hagelrat says:

Yeah the guy in charge never gets the didn't know excuse.

  14. That does seem kind of sad.

  15. Jocelyn says:

It is somehow reassuring to know the U.S. isn't the only country with dumbass politics. Your point about taking one's lumps is well made–I've realized I can forgive much, if a person just owns up to it…or even says, "I didn't know this was going on, but if it occurred under my watch, I'm still responsible."By the way, did you end up having Thai in Palm Springs?
